Keema or Qeema, originally mean minced meat. Keema is very common north indian dish made with minced goat or lamb along with green peas. I tried making the veg version of this dish using soy granules which is Veg Soy Keema Matar. There are different ways of making this dish. I used my moms way of making it in the kadhai itself so that it could be roasted well. You can make it in a pressure cooker too but the taste is better if you make it in a kadhai.
Veg Soy Keema Matar is an awesome alternative for vegetarians specially on this Meatless Mondays. There has been a lot of different views on Soy but in my opinion, “excess of everything is bad.” You can consume soy but just don’t over do it.
Ingredients:
- 1 small pack of Nutrela Soy Granules
- 2 medium sized onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup tomato puree
- 5-6 garlic cloves
- ginger
- 1-2 green chilies
- 1/8 cup of yogurt
- 1/2 cup green peas (used frozen)
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder or to taste
- 3/4 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 2-3 tbsp olive oil
- cilantro to garnish
Directions:
In a pot, boil the soy granules for few minutes and drain it in the cold water. Set aside.
In a kadhai, heat the oil and add onions to it. You can chop them or cut them lengthwise and fry them until dark brown. In a grinder, grind ginger, garlic and green chili together. Add that to the onions. Saute for additional few mins.
Now add tomato puree along with salt, turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala to the mixture. Stir it for additional few minutes until the mixture starting to leave the oil. Now add the green peas and roast for a couple of minutes.
Add the drained soy granules to the mixture. Mix well and cook it covered until the peas are done. Uncover it and check the spices and add paprika to it. Mix and let it simmer, stirring every couple of minutes.
You will see that the color of the peas is not as bright as when you had first put them. Let it roast for a couple of minutes uncovered. Sprinkle chopped cilantro.
Serve hot with naan, tandoori roti, paratha or a roti.
