I have been brought up in a household where my parents and grandparents were born and brought up in Burma. ย So we have been eating a lot of Burmese dishes since childhood. ย We are rice eaters so anything with rice tastes yummy. ย My husband says we are fake punjabis as we don’t make as many typical punjabi dishes at my Mom’s house.
Daal, chawal with tamatar pyaaz ki chutney is a staple dish in our household. ย When we can’t think what to make for dinner, we make dal chawal aloo or dal chawal tamatar ki chutney. That is why I say, “This is my soul food.” ย Haven’t had in a long time, so enjoyed it a lot. So lets make Tamaatar Pyaaz ki Chutney.
Ingredients:
- 2 onions, sliced lengthwise
- 5-6 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, cubed
- 2-3 green chilies, cut lengthwise
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2-3 tbsp water
- salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Directions:
In a pan, heat the oil. ย Add chopped garlic, sautรฉ for a minute.
Add sliced onions, sautรฉ for a couple of minutes and now add tomatoes and chilies. ย Also add salt and red chili powder to it. ย Cook for additional few minutes until the tomatoes are cooke all the way, ย no raw smell left..
Add a couple of tablespoons of water and paprika. ย Mix well. ย Cover and cook until all the tomato cubes are cooked.
Serve it hot. ย Enjoy this simple delicious chutney with dal, chawal…..So yummyyyyyy…
