I have been brought up in a household where my parents and grandparents were born and brought up in Burma. So we have been eating a lot of Burmese dishes since childhood. We are rice eaters so anything with rice tastes yummy. My husband says we are fake punjabis as we don’t make as many typical punjabi dishes at my Mom’s house.
Daal, chawal with tamatar pyaaz ki chutney is a staple dish in our household. When we can’t think what to make for dinner, we make dal chawal aloo or dal chawal tamatar ki chutney. That is why I say, “This is my soul food.” Haven’t had in a long time, so enjoyed it a lot. So lets make Tamaatar Pyaaz ki Chutney.
Ingredients:
- 2 onions, sliced lengthwise
- 5-6 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, cubed
- 2-3 green chilies, cut lengthwise
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2-3 tbsp water
- salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Directions:
In a pan, heat the oil. Add chopped garlic, sauté for a minute.
Add sliced onions, sauté for a couple of minutes and now add tomatoes and chilies. Also add salt and red chili powder to it. Cook for additional few minutes until the tomatoes are cooke all the way, no raw smell left..
Add a couple of tablespoons of water and paprika. Mix well. Cover and cook until all the tomato cubes are cooked.
Serve it hot. Enjoy this simple delicious chutney with dal, chawal…..So yummyyyyyy…
