Samosa Pinwheels | A Fusion Appetizer Everyone Will Love!

Samosas doesn’t need any introduction as they have been more of a global icon. But have you ever tried giving this classic treat a modern makeover? Samosa Pinwheels has all the flavors you love in a samosa, wrapped up in a bite-sized, fun-to-make twist. They are not only delicious but also perfect for parties, tea-time snacks, or as an appetizer to wow your guests.

I made these a few times for a small get together and were loved by all.  They are such light and flaky snack that can enjoyed with your favorite chutney.

What Are Samosa Pinwheels?

Samosa Pinwheels take the essence of a traditional samosa—spiced potatoes, peas, and aromatic spices—and present it in a rolled pastry form. Making these is a lot easier than making the traditional samosas where you have to make the dough, then roll it out, cut, fill and shape them.   I have made them using the store bought puff pastry to make it easy.

Why Make Samosa Pinwheels?

  1. Convenient: Pinwheels simplify the process while retaining the traditional flavors.
  2. Versatile: These are baked or air fried compared to the deep fried traditional ones. Additionally you can choose the filling you like.
  3. Presentation:  They’re guaranteed to stand out on your table with their spiral shape.
  4. Make Ahead:  these can be made ahead and put it the freezer, all you have to do is cut them and bake when you are ready to serve it.

Ingredients for Pinwheels

The filling for the pinwheels is made with basic pantry items such as potatoes, peas and basic spices.   Additionally, there are so many different fillings you can choose as per your preference such as chicken keema, spinach, cheese & jalepenos etc.

Tips for Perfect Pinwheels

  • Make sure the filling is completely cool before spreading it on the dough; this prevents the pastry from becoming soggy.
  • If using puff pastry, keep it chilled until assembly to maintain its flaky texture.
  • Experiment with fillings like shredded chicken, spiced lentils, or even sweet versions with nuts and dried fruits.

So, the next time you’re craving samosas but want to try something different, roll up some samosa pinwheels and let the compliments roll in!
