Another awesome recipe for Navratri as we celebrate the 5th day of this special festival. How is everyone’s fasting going? Hope you all are enjoying these yummy dishes that we tend not to make other times. Sabudana Khichdi, a gluten free dish which is so simple yet so delicious. It doesn’t have to be enjoyed only when you are fasting. You can make otherwise too specially when you are on a gluten free diet.
A couple of things that done differently in each household for Navratri. I had soaked sabudana from the Phalaahari Thalipeeth that I posted a day before yesterday. I am sure you all have your version of making this recipe which is almost similar to what I am going to post today.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sabudana (tapioca pearls)
- 1 cup water (for soaking)
- chopped ginger
- 1-2 small potatoes (cubed)
- 3/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1-2 Red dry Chilli
- 1 green chilli chopped
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- lime/lemon juice
- chopped cilantro for garnish
- roasted & crushed peanuts
- olive oil
Directions:
Soak the sabudana for 4-5 hours or over night. Drain the excess water out and set aside. In a kadhai or pan, heat the oil and add cumin seeds. Let it splutter then add chopped ginger and green chillies. Now add cubed potatoes and let it cook covered for few minutes so the potatoes are almost cooked.
While the potatoes are cooking roast the peanuts if you don’t have roasted ones handy. Uncover the pan and add the sabudana, peanuts along with salt, red chili powder and cumin powder. Mix everything well and cover again for a few minutes.
Check to see if the potatoes are done. Check the spices at this time and add if needed as per your taste. Sprinkle some chopped cilantro and give it a stir.
Drizzle some lime/lemon juice. Serve hot with plain yogurt or a mint chutney.
