Aloo tikki is a very common snack in North India. There are so many different ways an aloo tikki can be made. I wanted to share what I used to make something similar. This tikki can be eaten during Navratri fasting as all the ingredients used are permitted for this fast.
Ingredients:
- 1 raw banana (grated n blanched)
- 2 boiled potatoes
- 1/4 cup spinach (I used frozen and blanched)
- salt to taste
- 2 tbsp Singoda aataa (Vrat Aataa)
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp amchoor
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- chopped ginger
- green chilli
- cilantro
Directions:
Boil the potatoes and set aside. Grate the banana and put in the boiling water and take it out in a couple of minutes so they are not cooked completely. Also in a separate pan boil the water and add spinach in it and let it sit for a few mins. Now mash the potatoes, add the grated raw bananas and the spinach in a mixing bowl. Then add the grated ginger, green chilli and cilantro to the mixture. Add the singoda aataa, salt, amchoor, red chilli powder and garam masala and mix well with your hand.
Now take a little bit of mixture in between the palms and roll it to make a ball shape and press to flatten it. Heat a little bit of oil in a frying pan and place the tikkis one by one to shallow fry them.
You can deep fry them too but I decided to shallow fry them instead. Serve hot with mint or tamaring sweet chutney.
