An easy to make low calorie snack which is a very popular North Indian street food called Matara (dry white peas). Have been eating this since I was child as I lived in India for a long time and when moved to US, my mom used to make it. Love the flavors and is an easy snack to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups dry matar (soaked overnight)
- water
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1 onion finely chopped
- chopped cilantro
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 chaat masala or to taste
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- tamarind juice as per the taste
Directions:
Soak the matar (dry white peas) overnight. Pressure cooker it with a water, just upto the matar not too much and let it cook until 2 whistles. There should not be any water when you open it.
Add all the ingredients which is salt, chopped onion, green chilies, cilantro, chaat masala, red chili powder, chaat masala, cumin powder, tamarind juice.
Mix well with your hands and test the tanginess. If needed add more tamarind juice or any other spices. Serve it with a kulcha or just like that as a snack.
