Healthy Bread Pakoda (Healthy Bread Fritter)

Bread pakoda is one of everyone favorite snack in my household. ย We all were hungry as we didn’t have proper lunch, so decided to make something with tea. ย Bread pakoda was going to be easy and healthy as I made it with brown bread and didn’t deep fry them. ย Love these type of snack on a gloomy day when there is no sunshine outside.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup gram flour (Besan)
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped green chilli
  • chopped cilantro
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp amchoor (dry mango powder)
  • water to make the batter
  • 4-5 pieces of bread
  • olive oil

Directions:

Cut the bread pieces into whatever desired shape you want. ย I cut them in triangles and set aside. ย In a mixing bowl, mix besan and water, stir it make sure there are no lumps. ย The batter shouldn’t be too runny as it has to stick to the bread but not very thick either. ย Now add the chopped onions, green chilli, cilantro, salt, amchoor and red chilli powder and mix it well.

In a frying pan, add 1-2 teaspoon of olive oil. ย Now dip one slice at a time into the batter on both sides and place it in the pan on a medium heat. Turn every 2-3 minutes until crispy.

These are healthy as they are not deep fried and also we used brown bread instead. ย Serve hot with mint or tamarind chutney along with a hot cup of tea.
